I have been riding the Steampunk train ever since I read the first book in Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate Series, Soulless. I absolutely love Carriger's series, and I can't help but compare books of the genre to her work. The Iron Duke held its own. Meljean Brook does an admirable job at building her Steampunk version of Victorian England, and the beginning of the book sets the perfect foundation for a good read. The story lost a bit of momentum in a few places but overall it was better than I had expected.
