I had seen this book several times before actually buying and reading it. I can't ever seem to follow the "don't judge a book by its cover" rule. I was repelled by it, to be honest. Kittredge writes that Jack has the cast and style of Billy Idol. Well, if that's the case, then the beefy bloke on the cover could not possibly be Jack. They look like a tag-team of Gothic professional wrestlers.
With that out of the way, I'm happy to report that the book is pretty swell! The characters don't conform to a standard script for an Urban Fantasy novel. The relationship between Pete and Jack is a lovely blend of reticent ardor and heated animosity.
I'll definitely read the next book in the series.
